No More Horrors: Blunder Proof Skin Care

When it comes to skin care, there are more dos than don'ts. Do cleanse and exfoliate. Do moisturize. Do use sunscreen. But what about the don'ts? Knowing what you shouldn't do is just as important as knowing what you should do. So here are my top three healthy beauty don'ts. First, don't tan. About 90 percent of skin aging is caused by the environment. UV light damages skin, causing wrinkles, fine lines, and crow's feet. If you do get some sun always use sunscreen with SPF 15 or higher. Next, don't overdo it. Overzealous cleansing and harsh exfoliation scratch the surface of the skin, which leads to irritation. Harsh astringents with alcohol strip the skin of natural oil. So be gentle, and watch for signs of irritation. And, don't use soap on the face. Soaps dry skin and can stimulate secretions causing blackheads. Instead, look for products specifically formulated for your skin type and cleansing routine. When you avoid beauty blunders, you'll always have that certain something.
